Content description

Three canvas work cushions from the second half of the 20th century worked in wool. One has a geometric design of squares in yellow and green worked in reversed cushion stitch, each motif with a pale green central square outlined with darker green reversed tent stitch, framed with two shades of yellow on opposing quarters of the square, the yellow stitching forming a cross between each set of four cushion stitch motifs, with upright cross detail in olive green and orange. The cushion is edged with green piping and a green cotton sateen back.

The second cushion has multi-patterned geometric hexagons worked in cross stitch in multiple colours edged in black, resembling a 'patchwork' pattern, with a twisted and looped cord edging and a black cotton back.

The third cushion has a design of three lilies in pinks, purples and greens on an ecru background growing from a base in shades of brown worked in tent stitch. It has a dark red and pink satin stitch and beige back stitch border, and beige velour back. These three cushions are typical of domestic embroidery of the middle decades of the 20th century.
