Content description
Circa 1920-30s small panel showing a stylised depiction of George and the Dragon, worked in white silk threads on a pink satin ground. The scene shows Saint George on a horse with a stylised helmet, billowing cape, and sword in hand. The horse rears atop a dragon. The scene is worked in satin stitch, padded satin stitch, and stem stitch. With the exception of small details like the dragon's facial features and the horse's throatlash, which are made of pink threads, the entire scene is worked in white.
The use of salmon pink satin and the angularity of the figures are in line with embroideries and other artworks coming out of the 1920s and 1930s.
