Workroom orders. Lists of names, addresses; details of work undertaken, materials, etc. Includes sample materials. As well as commissions for Queen Mary this Workroom order book includes a number of film commissions for the RSN in the 1940s.
Alfred Junge a production designer with film credits stretching from the 1920s to the 1950s and who earned an Oscar for his work on Black Narcissus (1947) he seems to have commissioned work (recorded in this volume) for Black Narcissus and The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp An entry for 18 November 1942 is from 'The Secretary Mr Steel Independent Studios, Denham, Bay' and is described as 'Own design – Artist Alfred Junge ‘petti point, soft colours’ This is probably work for the title credits of the film ‘The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp’.
Another order on 7th May 1946 from producer George Busby at Pinewood Studios records
‘Embroidery for Fi(l)m ‘Black Narcissus’ Design Own Coloured Sketch St Francis of Assisi (1182-1226) Size 17 ¾ x14 ½ margin 2x3.To Emb: one third. Mounted on frame. To be ready on the 28th May morning with out fail -12.
A further film commission in this order book records a film for Two Cities Films, 4th March 1943 and references 'Mr Olivier Ger: 1366 Film A.T.S, To Supply Sampler Single Cream Canvas No1 SS.13x 18 Strawberry Border Counted
6 Motifs House. Tree. Heart. Carriage & Horses Basket of Flowers Lady All worked in Cross St before end of feb: if possible. The reference to Mr Olivier and Two Cities Films means it is possible this was work for the film Henry V.
