Register and accounts of students at Royal School of Needlework 'Training School' includes interesting details of funders for students during the second world war, including two being paid for by the Royal Norwegian Air Force. (pp. 115 & 116). The Royal School of Art Needlework first set up its 'Training School' in 1895 offering two year certificate or 3 year diploma courses. The curriculum was designed to enable students to teach and to earn their living through embroidery and included; plain sewing, design, and all the major Western embroidery techniques. It took advantage of the Technical Instruction Act 1889 that allowed local authorities to use rates to fund technical or manual instruction and was part of a wider expansion of the school's purpose and premises.
