Royal School of Needlework: Created by the Royal School of Art Needlework as miniaturised versions of designs. Original designs were miniaturised and either traced or copied onto 'Design Cards' which were sent out to clients for next day approval. This was part of the work of the 'Painting Room' sometimes referred to as the Paintroom, the department responsible for all design and draftsmanship.

Scope and content

Multiple versions of design card recording oval shaped design of intertwined fantastical flowers and scrolling acanthus leaves, inspired by 17th century designs and including what may be a cypher or monogram at the top. Probably for a mirror or frame. Pencil on card. Blank rectangle in centre of design. Has a circle at the top to hang the item, which is shown on its side on the Design Card.
